Tapes and Tapes

A few days ago I headed to the local library and checked out a couple videos (VHS—what a format!) on Switzerland to give me a bit more of a basis on the country.
While they were fairly informative, they were also pretty dated. If Geneva is indeed the “city of the future…today!” as Touring Switzerland asserted, than I’m confused as to why it still looked like 1987 in the video.

Even so, here are a few interesting things I gleaned from decades old travel films:

1) The Roman name for Switzerland was Helvetica. Suddenly everything’s coming together typographically…
2) You can use credit cards in Switzerland and they generally have good exchange rates.
3) Apparently the Swiss drive on the right side of the road like we do (not that I think I’ll be doing too much driving).
4) Switzerland actually has 4 national languages (German, French, Italian, and an unidentified fourth: perhaps English?)

Did the video explain those Ricola guys blowing the horns on the cover?
